I swallowed my crown, now what?
Should patients care about crown technology?
Again, technology is only as good as the person using it. The highest quality crowns are carefully produced by a trained technician following proper preparation by a prosthodontist. Typically, I prefer to prepare the tooth, place a provisional restoration to condition the gum tissue, and bring the patient back two weeks later to deliver quality handmade dental restorations. However, when a patient requires an immediate final restoration, we can still arrange for the highest quality crown to be fabricated within a couple of hours. You cannot rush quality.
How are the crowns you craft better?
The point is that it is not my crowns that are amazing, it is that the dentistry that is amazing. The hallmark of excellent dentistry is when not even a highly trained dentist or technician can differentiate a crown on a tooth, a porcelain laminate veneer, or an implant crown.
When you leave my office, you don't want people to say, "You have such beautiful crowns." You want them to say, "You are so lucky you have such beautiful natural teeth!" It’s my job to make sure only you know the truth.
